The Weekly Digest Email

Every week, fortnight or month, Fetchie can email you a short summary of what people searched for on your site — including what they looked for and couldn’t find. It’s the Insights tab distilled to the part worth reading over coffee, delivered instead of remembered.

Turning It On

The digest is off by default, and switching it on takes two screens.

  1. Go to Tracksies > Settings > Features and switch on Weekly search digest email on the Fetchie tile
  2. Go to Tracksies > Fetchie > Insights and set Digest recipient — leave it blank and the digest goes to the site admin email
  3. On the same tab, choose How often: every week, every fortnight or every month
  4. Click Save

From then on it arrives on the cadence you picked. Turning the feature off stops it just as cleanly.

One practical note: Fetchie hands the email to WordPress to send, and WordPress delivery is only as reliable as your site’s mail setup. If your site doesn’t already use an SMTP plugin for its outgoing email, one is worth having — for this and for every other email your site sends.

What’s In It

The email mirrors the Insights tab’s framing, covering exactly the period since the last one was sent:

  • Search volume — how many searches ran in the period
  • Top searches — up to ten, each with how often it was searched and how many results it found on average
  • Searches that found nothing — up to ten; what people looked for and couldn’t find, your content gap list
  • A link to see the full picture on the Insights tab

The subject line tells you the week’s headline before you open it — it reads like “Your Site search this week: 41 searches”.

Sections with nothing to say are simply left out, and a completely quiet week sends no email at all. Zero searches means zero emails, not a page of zeros.

Styling the Email

The digest is a Tracksies-family email, so its look is managed in the Designer:

  • The Emails tab in Tracksies > Designer controls the email’s header and footer (the logo comes from the Branding tab)
  • Header, footer and background colours live in the Designer’s Colours tab, under Email Colours
  • The email’s fonts follow your brand’s email-safe font settings

The content area itself keeps a white background — deliberate, because email apps are far less forgiving than browsers, and white-on-anything is the one combination that renders everywhere.

The No-Email Version: the Dashboard Widget

If your inbox is already full, the same numbers live on your WordPress dashboard. The Fetchie this week widget (on the main Dashboard screen, visible to administrators) shows the trailing seven days — total searches, top searches, and the found-nothing list — with a link through to the full Insights tab. It draws from exactly the same data as the digest, so the tile and the email can never disagree.

On a quiet week it says so, kindly: “A quiet week — no searches logged in the last 7 days.”

If the Digest Doesn’t Arrive

  • Check the feature is on and the Insights tab was saved — saving is also what schedules the send
  • Remember the quiet-week rule: no searches, no email
  • Blank recipient means the site admin email — check that address (and its spam folder)
  • Still nothing? General email delivery is the usual culprit — see the SMTP note above, and Troubleshooting for the debug log, which records every digest send and skip with its reason
