Programme Terms

Perkie writes your rewards programme’s terms page for you, from your own settings. How points are earned, what they’re worth, how long coupons last, your tiers and their thresholds: the page reads them from the settings that run the programme. Change a setting and the page changes with it.

—

Why It Matters

A terms page written by hand describes the programme on the day it was written. Then the earn rate changes, or a tier gets added, and nobody goes back to the page.

A page generated from your settings can’t drift like that. Customers can check the rules for themselves, and when someone asks why an order earned what it did, you can point them to a page that matches what your store is actually doing.

We don’t know what your local laws and regulations require, but we hope to give you the tools to make it easier.

—

Before You Start

  • When Perkie was activated, it created a draft page called Rewards Program with the terms already on it. It’s a draft, so customers can’t see it until you publish it.
  • Set up your earning, redemption and tiers first. The page describes whatever is configured, so it’s most useful once the programme is.

—

The Steps

Step 1: Choose the terms page

  1. Go to Tracksies > Perkie and stay on the General tab.
  2. Scroll to Terms & Conditions.
  3. In Terms Page, pick the page. The Rewards Program draft is there already.
  4. Use the Preview link beside it to see what customers will see.

If the page is still a draft, a note beside it says customers can’t see it yet. Publish it from the page editor when you’re ready.

—

Step 2: Choose your clauses

Under Legal Clauses, tick the standard clauses you want on the page:

  • Not redeemable for cash
  • No monetary value until redeemed
  • Store reserves the right to modify the program
  • Account termination forfeits unredeemed points
  • Points are non-transferable between accounts
  • Store may correct balances for errors or fraud
  • Points reversed on refund or cancellation

The first three are ticked to start with. The clauses use your store name and whatever you call your points.

—

Step 3: Add your own terms

Anything the generated page doesn’t cover goes in Additional Legal Terms. HTML is allowed, and it appears after the generated clauses.

This is the place for terms you’ve had written for your business, and for the parts of your programme the generated page doesn’t describe. See “What the page doesn’t cover” below.

—

Step 4: Decide whether customers must agree

Tick Require Agreement if customers must agree to the terms before taking part. What they see depends on your Enrollment Mode, further up the General tab:

  • Automatic: an acceptance banner appears on the rewards page.
  • Opt-in: a checkbox appears before they join, reading I agree to the Rewards Program Terms & Conditions.

Require Agreement needs a terms page chosen in Step 1. Without one, customers have nothing to agree to, and the General tab shows a warning in red.

Save the tab when you’re done.

—

What Appears on the Page

The page opens with How the Program Works, and then a section for each part of your programme that’s set up:

  • Earning: your earn rate, plus signup, first-order and per-order bonuses
  • Special dates, when Special Dates is switched on and a date pays something. Each date is described in your own words: its label, its reward, and when it’s sent
  • Reviews, when you reward approved reviews
  • Referrals, when Referrals is switched on
  • Redemption and Coupon Details
  • Expiration
  • Tiers, when tiers are switched on
  • Additional Redemption Options, Loyalty Discount, Bonus Events and Promotional Coupons, when you use them
  • Terms & Conditions: your chosen clauses, then your Additional Legal Terms

Most sections only appear when the thing they describe is switched on and set up, so a small programme gets a short page.

—

What the Page Doesn’t Cover

The generated page doesn’t describe:

  • Surveys, their thank-you rewards, or prize draws
  • Share rewards
  • Milestone rewards

If you run any of these, write them into Additional Legal Terms yourself. Prize draws especially: the rules for running one vary a lot from place to place.

—

Other Places the Terms Appear

  • The Welcome to the Program email includes the same generated text by default, so a new member gets the rules in their inbox.
  • Page builders. With the Gutenberg or Bricks switch on at Tracksies > Settings > Features, there’s a Program Terms block (or Bricks element) you can place on any page. Both switches start off.
  • The shortcode. [perkie_program_terms] renders the page anywhere shortcodes work. It’s what the Rewards Program draft uses.

Common Questions

Do I need to update the page when I change a setting?
No. The page is generated each time it’s viewed, so it always shows your current settings.

Can I edit the generated text?
Not the generated sections themselves. Choose which standard clauses appear, and add anything else in Additional Legal Terms.

Is the generated page legal advice?
No. It’s a record of how your programme is set up, written from your settings. Whether it covers what your jurisdiction requires is for you to decide, with your own advisers if you use them. The General tab says the same thing: treat it as a starting point.

I deleted the Rewards Program page. Can I get it back?
Create a new page, put [perkie_program_terms] on it, publish it, and choose it in Terms Page.

—

If Something Goes Wrong

The terms link goes nowhere.
Check Terms Page on the General tab. If the chosen page was deleted or trashed, a red warning appears there. Choose a published page.

Customers can’t accept the terms.
Require Agreement is on but no terms page is chosen. Choose one in Terms Page.

A section I expected isn’t on the page.
Sections only appear when their feature is switched on and set up. For example, the Referrals section needs the Referrals switch at Tracksies > Settings > Features, and the Reviews section needs a reward for approved reviews.
