Sharing Rewards

Share Perks adds a row of share buttons to any page you choose: X, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Reddit, Pinterest, email and copy link. Customers earn points for sharing. When Referrals is on, every link they share carries their own referral code, so a share that brings in a new customer can earn the referral reward as well.

—

Why It Matters

A referral reward only pays when a sale happens, so the customer takes a chance on getting nothing. A small reward for the share itself gives them a reason to share in the first place, and the referral reward is the bigger payoff if it works.

Each platform pays a customer once, ever. Sharing the same link fifty times earns the same as sharing it once, so there’s nothing to farm.

—

Before You Start

  • Switch on Share Perks. Go to Tracksies > Settings > Features, and on the Perkie tile switch Share Perks on. It starts off.
  • Switch on Referrals too, unless you only want email rewards. The referral side is what puts the customer’s code in the link and notices the click. With Referrals off the buttons still appear and still share, but only email shares can earn anything. See Referral Program.

How Customers Earn

PlatformStarting pointsPays when
X, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Reddit, Pinterest10 eachsomeone clicks the shared link
Copy link5someone clicks the copied link
Email25the customer sends the email

Email pays on send because it’s the one channel Perkie sends itself, so it knows the share happened. The others pay when the link is clicked, which is how Perkie knows they were shared at all.

To earn from a click, the customer needs to be logged in and a member of your rewards programme when they share. That’s when their referral code gets attached to the link. Anyone can still use the buttons. When Referrals is on, logged-out visitors see Log in to earn rewards when someone clicks your shared link., and signed-in customers who haven’t joined see Join the rewards program to earn points when someone clicks your shared link.

To send an email share, the customer needs to be signed in, and your store needs Tracksies HQ, which sends Perkie’s emails.

—

The Steps

Step 1: Set the points for each platform

  1. Go to Tracksies > Perkie and click the Earning tab.
  2. Scroll to Share Block.
  3. Set Points (one-time per customer) for each platform.
  4. Save the tab.

Set a platform to 0 and its button disappears from the share block.

—

Step 2: Set the email limits

Also in Share Block:

  • Email share rate limit: the most share emails one customer can send in a minute. Starts at 3.
  • Email share daily cap: the most they can send in a day, on top of the per-minute limit. Starts at 25.

These stop the email form being used to send spam from your store. The points still only pay once, however many emails a customer sends.

—

Step 3: Put the share block on a page

Add this shortcode wherever you want the buttons:

[perkie_share]

Your rewards page is a good place for it, and so is anywhere a customer lands right after buying. Someone who has bought from you minutes ago is about as keen on your store as they’ll ever be.

The shortcode shares the page it sits on. On a page that isn’t a single post or page, it shares your home page.

Optional settings:

SettingWhat it doesExample
headingA heading above the buttonsheading="Share and earn"
layouthorizontal (the default), vertical or gridlayout="grid"
stylefilled (the default) or outlinestyle="outline"
platformsShow only some buttons, from x, facebook, linkedin, whatsapp, reddit, pinterest, email, copy_linkplatforms="facebook,email,copy_link"
content_urlShare a different page instead of the current onecontent_url="https://yourstore.com/shop/"

A platform set to 0 points stays hidden even if you list it in platforms.

Page builders. With the Gutenberg or Bricks switch on at Tracksies > Settings > Features, there’s a Share block (or Bricks element) that does the same job. Both switches start off.

What the email share looks like

The customer clicks the email button, fills in Recipient email and Personal note (optional), then clicks Send. Perkie sends the Share Referral Invite email, which you can edit on the Emails tab.

A customer can email each friend once, and can’t send one to their own address.

Friends can opt out

Every invite carries a link for the friend: Stop these emails from your store. It opens a page that asks Stop emails from your store that arrive when someone shares a link with you?, with a Stop these emails button. Nothing changes until they click it.

After that, the share box won’t send to their address. The customer sees We can’t send to that address., which doesn’t say why.

Common Questions

Can a customer earn from the same platform twice?
No. Each platform pays each customer once, ever.

Does the person who clicks need to buy anything?
Not for the share reward. If they go on to place an order, the referral reward is separate and follows your referral settings.

Where does the customer see the points?
In their points history on the Points & Rewards tab in My Account, like any other points.

Can I turn off one platform?
Yes. Set its points to 0 on the Earning tab, or leave it out of the platforms setting in the shortcode.

If Something Goes Wrong

Nothing appears where I put the shortcode.
Check that Share Perks is on at Tracksies > Settings > Features. If it is, check that at least one platform on the Earning tab has more than 0 points.

Customers share but never earn for clicks.
Check that Referrals is on. Without it the link carries no referral code, so Perkie can’t tell whose share it was. Also check the customer was logged in when they shared.

A customer says the email button won’t send.
They need to be signed in. The message they see tells you the rest:

  • Too many emails sent. Please try again in a minute. They’ve hit the rate limit.
  • You’ve reached today’s share email limit. Please try again tomorrow. They’ve hit the daily cap.
  • You’ve already shared with this person. Each friend can only be emailed once.
  • We can’t send to that address. That friend has asked not to get these emails.
  • That email couldn’t be sent. Please try again later. The email couldn’t go out. Check that Tracksies HQ is active, because it sends Perkie’s emails.
