Surveys & Prize Draws

Survey Perks lets you ask your customers questions and reward them for answering. Build the questions once as a form, attach the form to a survey, and put the survey on any page. You can thank respondents with points or a coupon, run a prize draw, or both.

—

Why It Matters

Most customers never answer a survey that offers nothing back. The ones who do tend to be your happiest and your crossest, and the large middle stays quiet. A reward changes who answers.

And because the survey runs in your own store, an answer from an existing customer sits in the same system as their order history, rather than coming from a stranger on a research panel.

—

Before You Start

  • Switch on Survey Perks. Go to Tracksies > Settings > Features, and on the Perkie tile switch Survey Perks on. It starts off.
  • Then go to Tracksies > Perkie and click the Surveys tab. It has three sub-tabs: Surveys, Forms and Settings.

—

The Steps

Step 1: Build a form

A form is the set of questions. One form can be used by more than one survey.

  1. On the Forms sub-tab, click Add Form.
  2. Give it a name, then add fields. The field types are Short Text, Long Text, Dropdown, Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Scale (1-9) and Yes/No.
  3. For each field, set the label and any help text, and tick This field is required if it must be answered.
  4. Click Save Form.

You don’t need to add an email field. Every survey collects the respondent’s email address on its own.

—

Step 2: Create the survey

  1. On the Surveys sub-tab, click New survey.
  2. Fill in the basics:

– Title and Slug. The slug is the survey’s short name, such as annual-feedback-2026.
– Description, shown to respondents.
– Start date. Leave it blank to open straight away.
– End date. Leave it blank for a survey that stays open. A prize draw needs one, because that’s when the winners are drawn.
– Eligibility: Anyone with email, Logged-in customers only or Enrolled rewards members only.
– Status: Draft, Live or Closed. Only a Live survey takes answers.
– Form: the form you built in Step 1.

  1. Under Identity fields, tick any details you want to collect besides email: First name, Last name, Phone and Address.
  2. Click Save survey.

—

Step 3: Choose a thank-you reward (optional)

Under Thank-you reward, pick a Reward type:

  • No reward
  • Points: added to the respondent’s balance when they submit, if they tick the box to join your rewards programme. See “Joining Is Up to Them” below.
  • Coupon: a real WooCommerce coupon with its own rules.

For a coupon, set the Amount and Coupon type (% off or $ off), and optionally:

  • Expiry (days). 0 means it never expires.
  • Allowed products and Excluded products
  • Allowed categories and Excluded categories
  • Minimum order subtotal

When a respondent earns a coupon, it’s shown on screen, added to their cart, and included in their submission confirmation email. A coupon goes to the email address they gave, whether or not they join.

A coupon survey with no End date needs care. One coupon goes to each email address, but someone can use a new address every time. Perkie shows a warning on the survey when you set it up this way.

—

Step 4: Add a prize draw (optional)

Under Prize draw, answer Is there a prize at the end? with Yes, then:

  1. Add a Prize draw description, such as “Spring Customer Survey Giveaway”.
  2. Add a Prize tier for each prize. For each tier, set:

– Tier name, such as First Prize or Runner-up
– Number of winners in this tier
– Products in pack: products from your store. Each becomes a $0 line item on the winner’s prize order, and stock comes off when you send the winner emails.
– Non-stocked extras: anything that isn’t a product, such as a voucher or a handwritten card. It’s added to the prize order as a private note for staff.

  1. Add Order notes for staff if there’s something every prize order needs.
  2. Under Who can win, decide whether to tick Winners must join the rewards program. When it’s ticked, only people who tick the join box are entered, and the box tells them so. When it isn’t, everyone who answers is entered.
  3. Under Who hears the results, choose Everyone who entered, or Only entrants who ask, which adds a Tell me who wins box to the survey. This covers the runner-up email and the announcement. Winners are always told.
  4. Click Save survey.

Winners are picked at random from everyone entered in the draw. Nobody wins more than one tier in the same draw.

—

Step 5: Put the survey on a page

On the Surveys sub-tab, each survey has its shortcode beside it with a Copy button:

[perkie_survey id="12"]

You can use the slug instead: [perkie_survey slug="annual-feedback-2026"].

To show the prizes on a page, use:

[perkie_prize_list survey="annual-feedback-2026" heading="Prizes"]

survey takes the slug or the ID. heading is optional.

Running the Draw

Perkie checks every hour for surveys whose End date has passed, and runs the draw for them. You can also run it early from the survey’s Responses page with Draw winners. To get there, click Responses beside the survey on the Surveys sub-tab.

The draw is silent. Nobody is emailed and nothing is sent until you choose to. That gives you time to check the winners against your rules first.

On the Responses page, in order:

  1. Draw winners, if it hasn’t run yet.
  2. Check the winners. If you need to, Redraw silently picks new ones and cancels any prize orders already made.
  3. Create prize orders makes a WooCommerce order for each winner, ready to pack.
  4. Send winner emails. Once any email goes out, drawing and redrawing are locked.
  5. Send runner-up emails to entrants who didn’t win, if you want to.
  6. Send announcement to all entrants, if you want to.

If you chose Only entrants who ask under Who hears the results, steps 5 and 6 only reach the entrants who ticked Tell me who wins. These emails reach people who haven’t joined your rewards programme too, using the name and email address they gave on the survey.

Every button after Draw winners asks you to confirm first. The three send buttons can’t be undone.

—

Emails and Messages

Email touchpoints, on each survey, let you change four emails for that survey only: Submission confirmation, Winner notification, Runner-up email and Winner announcement. Leave a field blank to use your defaults from the Emails tab.

State messages control what respondents see on the page:

  • Before it opens, before the Start date. Use {date} to show the opening date.
  • Once it closes, after the End date or when you set the status to Closed.
  • After submission, straight after they submit.

Leave them blank to use the standard wording.

—

Joining Is Up to Them

Answering a survey doesn’t sign anyone up to your rewards programme. A respondent joins only if they tick the join box on the survey. Members who are already signed in don’t see the box.

The box says what joining gets them on that survey, for example Join the rewards program to get your 50 points, or Join the rewards program to enter the prize draw. If you’ve chosen a terms page, it links to it.

What happens if they don’t tick it:

  • Points aren’t paid, and aren’t paid later if they make an account.
  • A coupon is still sent to the email address they gave.
  • A prize draw still includes them, unless you ticked Winners must join the rewards program.
  • No rewards record is made for them.

The survey shows a short note about joining, which you can edit in Respondent transparency note. Where to show the ‘About you’ details sets whether the note and the identity fields sit Just above Submit or Below the survey title.

If you use Only entrants who ask, you can change the wording of the Tell me who wins box on the Settings sub-tab, under Survey results box wording. A tick is kept with that one survey response. It isn’t a mailing list.

We don’t know what your local laws and regulations require, but we hope to give you the tools to make it easier. The rules around prize draws in particular vary a lot from place to place.

Seeing the Answers

  • Responses page: every response to a survey, with Export CSV to take them into a spreadsheet.
  • Tracksies HQ: with HQ installed, a customer’s survey answers also appear on their customer record.

—

Common Questions

Can someone answer the same survey twice?
One response per email address. If they submit again with the same address, their answers are updated, and they don’t get a second reward or a second draw entry.

Do surveys appear on my programme terms page?
No. If you run surveys with rewards or prize draws, describe them under Additional Legal Terms. See Programme Terms.

Can I use a survey without any reward?
Yes. Choose No reward and leave the prize draw set to no prize.

Does answering a survey add someone to my mailing list?
No. Perkie has no marketing opt-in on surveys. The only boxes are the one for joining your rewards programme and, if you choose it, Tell me who wins for that survey’s results.

If Something Goes Wrong

The shortcode shows nothing.
Check that Survey Perks is on at Tracksies > Settings > Features.

The page says “Survey not found”.
The ID or slug in the shortcode doesn’t match a survey. Copy the shortcode again from the Surveys sub-tab.

Respondents can’t submit.
Check the survey’s Status is Live, and that today is between its Start date and End date.

Respondents see “You must be an enrolled rewards member to take this survey.”
The survey’s Eligibility is set to Enrolled rewards members only. Change it if you want anyone to answer.

The thank-you reward didn’t save.
Pick Points or Coupon and enter an amount above 0. The survey shows a warning when this happens.

I can’t redraw.
Once any winner, runner-up or announcement email has been sent, the draw is locked so the published result can’t change.
